Not long ago, we said that Breakfast at Tiffany’s was a classic, yes, with well-developed characters and famous scenes. and based on a famous book by Truman Capote, who seems to have been a good writer.
This is not the same in Your Place or Mine, and it’s not because times have changed (in the Sixties lots of serial films were made too). There are movies that want to go one step further, and then there are movies that just have an expiration date. This movie’s expiration date is next Valentine’s Day, which is a shame.
This movie has everything going for it: two very good actors doing their jobs in a very good and professional way, two sidekick characters, problems and simple jokes with the middle-age crisis, and even shots of Brooklyn Bridge. A postcard, and it works because these formula movies just work. If you change one thing in the magic formula, you run the serious risk of not being liked, so the usual (and simple) choice is to not take risks and let two good actors do a great job in a good terrain: comedy.
Does it sound like an old song? There is no way to hide this, and I think everyone on the team knew it. Full of old sayings? Almost just as much as Christmas.
Entertaining? You sit down, the good actors come out, and after about 30 seconds, you don’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen. Visit primewire to stream movies for free.
