The third movie in the Magic Mike series, Magic Mike’s Last Dance, was supposed to come out on HBO Max, but instead, it was released in theaters. Magic Mike XXL came out in 2015, so it’s been 8 years since then. The question is whether or not a story about stripping and exotic dancing will still make an impact and get people excited. This movie has a 14A/R rating because it has some racy scenes, but for the most part, or at least most of the time, it tries to be more of a romance movie. It makes sense for the movie to come out over Valentine’s Day weekend, and Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek do their best to sell it. But despite their best efforts, the movie doesn’t really work as a romance. Instead, it’s better as a character study based on the main character, Mike. Still, that character study is built on a thin plot and even thinner characters when the racy parts aren’t happening. This movie is fun to watch, but many people will want to know more about it and how it fits into the franchise as a whole.
Magic Mike’s Last Dance is about former dancer Mike Lane (Tatum), whose furniture business failed and left him broke. To make ends meet, he works as a bartender. When he meets Maxandra Mendoza (Hayek), a wealthy socialite, his luck changes quickly. She takes him to London so they can put on a show at a famous London theater. Even though Mike and Maxandra were fun to watch together, the movie was really about the show. Because of this, the romance between Mike and Maxandra becomes almost an afterthought as other plots drive a wedge between them. In the meantime, the fact that the movie was in a hurry to set up the endgame did not help the characters grow. Still, the movie gets past its weak start and tells a kind of redemption story that won’t really shock anyone. All in all, it’s still kind of interesting to watch, even though it’s predictable. Maxandra isn’t included because her side of the story wasn’t nearly as interesting. Visit primewire letmewatchthis to stream free movies.
