Alexander Skarsgrd and Mia Goth are in the movie Infinity Pool, which is a mind-bending step into madness. The latest twisted thriller from Brandon Cronenberg, which comes after 2020’s The Possessor, pushes the limits of cinematic monstrosities as we see some truly shocking images. A lot of what happens in this movie might not be what you expect, but if you know what it’s about, you’ll enjoy it even more. The movie starts with a weird scene that prepares the audience for the upside-down world they are about to enter. The tone is set right away by the droning camera that turns itself upside down as it pans across wide shots of the resort. From there, Skarsgrd and Coleman, who play James and Em Foster, throw us into their emotionally tense relationship.
James is a failed writer who has clearly put himself down so much that he is now happy with where he is. His lukewarm responses to his wife when she asks about dinner or other activities at the resort show that he is not interested in any of it. He seems to be just going through the motions while showing little interest in what is going on around him. When he and Em run into Gabi and Alban Bauer (Goth and Jalil Lespert), Cronenberg takes the idea of “Hey, we saw you from across the bar and really liked your vibe. Can we buy you a drink?” to the next level. As soon as Goth’s Gabi Bauer tries to get James’s attention, she starts to cause trouble. It’s not hard, since he throws himself at her when she shows him some interest in his “little” book from six years ago.
