With a name like “Cocaine Bear,” it’s not hard to get people interested in this kind of idea. Unbelievably, it’s based on a true story. It’s simple and to the point, but making a movie with a simple premise isn’t always easy because some filmmakers tend to overthink their execution. Even though the movie isn’t perfect, and most people didn’t expect it to be, I think it tries to be more than it should have been and loses itself in the process. Still, it has a lot of violent scenes that make it worth the 18A/R rating and are sure to get people excited. If there’s one thing the movie gets right, it’s the cheesy 1980s vibe. It’s great that it knows how silly and silly-looking it is and doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is. The movie is about 90 minutes long and is short but sweet. It couldn’t just be a bear, though many people may wish there was more bear. Too many characters are used to tell a story about the title bear, but they only make the story hard to follow and make the bear seem unimportant, which could make watching the movie feel like a chore.
The only thing that matters about the story of Cocaine Bear is the bear. After a plane crash, many different people find themselves in the same forest with a bear that has taken cocaine and is killing people. There was a series of subplots that all had something to do with the bear and the forest. The movie was basically a bunch of pieces that never quite fit together in a way that made sense. Some of the wildest parts of that mess stood out, but the movie often chose to focus on side stories instead of just letting the bear run wild.
